019. Watery Wednesday #116

The bird on top of the sculpture is alive.  It makes the artwork dynamic, don't you think?

G’psgolox totem pole returns home after 77 years

Welcoming ceremony at the Museum of Anthropology, University of British Columbia

April 26, 2006
The G’psgolox totem pole is in the glass cabinet on the floor.

"The Haisla totem pole began its epic journey on 23 March, from the Museum of Ethnography in Stockholm. It travelled by road to the Swedish port of Gothenburg, where it was wheeled on board the roro decks of the cargo vessel Maersk Wind for its four-week, 9103-mile sea journey via the Panama Canal to the port of Tacoma, Washington, where it was then loaded onto a truck for a 141-mile trip to Vancouver."

Totem pole at the Museum of Anthropology
Everyone should visit The Museum of Anthropology. Locals and tourists alike. It is a gem.

The MOA is a place of world arts and culture.  Its strength is the art and culture of British Columbia.

Plan to spend a day there.  Pack a lunch and enjoy it at the beach.  You'll have a great day!

My world Tuesday
Go green.  Take public transportation.  Take any bus that gives UBC as its destination.  You'll get a mini tour of the city.

006. Pink Saturday

When I woke up last Saturday to a beautiful snowy scene, I grabbed my camera, put on my pink rubber boots, threw a ski jacket over my pink Minnie Mouse pjs and was out the back door.

The only touch of pink in the garden was a flower pot.

But indoors we have a splendid, hot pink Christmas cactus!

Happy Pink Saturday!

An aquabus

The rainbow-coloured boat that resembles a bathtub toy is a water taxi. Water taxis take locals, commuters and tourists from downtown Vancouver, across False Creek to Granville Island - a very enjoyable way to travel in the city.

Happy Thanksgiving!
